Sabancı University Karaköy Premises: Minerva Palace, Karaköy, İstanbul
18th - 19th September 2014
|Paul Kei Matsuda||Derin Atay||Mark James|
We are happy to welcome you to the first Sabanci University International Freshman English Conference.
The conference will bring together Freshman English coordinators and instructors from all over the World who have made great contributions to the field of Academic Language Teaching and Learning. It is a challenge to meet the needs of learners in a continuously changing, technology driven world. The Freshman English Conference will enable us to keep abreast of recent research and practice, while engaging in high quality scholarly conversation furthering an interdisciplinary understanding.
We are proud to announce that Derin Atay, Mark James, and Paul Kei Matsuda will be with us as our distinguished plenary speakers. Derin Atay will attempt to answer the question: “Is critical thinking teachable?” in tertiary education, by empirically assessing the effects of instruction on L2 Reading and Writing. Mark James' talk will focus on "transfer of learning in English-for-academic-purposes education" while Paul Matsuda's talk is entitled "Critical Thinking and Writing: An Integrated Approach".
One stroke of luck” is the venue: The Minerva Palace - Sabanci University’s Karaköy premises in İstanbul - where you will be absolutely thrilled by the charming and exciting views and atmosphere of the Old Town Area. This will provide you with an excellent opportunity to enjoy your lunch around the Galata Area.
We hope that you will join us in Istanbul to share your ideas and findings, and to engage in lively debates about the future of research in Freshman English.
Please note that the deadline for proposal submissions is February 28, 2014. When you plan your trip, remember that this is a two full-day conference.
